Born in Belfast, January 1938, Derek Dougan is a
Wolverhampton Wanderer's football legend. In his 18 years in the Football
League, Derek scored a total of 222 goals in 564 matches, including 95 in 258
for wolves. He played for Wolves from March 1967 until his retirement in May
1976. The 'Doog' He began his professional football career at Fratton Park
in Portsmouth, August 1957, after having had a brief spell with Distillery, his
home town club in Northern Ireland. He remained at Fratton Park until March 1959
when he transferred to Blackburn Rovers for £15,000.
He spent two-and-a-half years at Ewood Park before signing to Aston Villa in
July 1961. Two years later 'Doog' was off again, this time to Peterborough
United.
In the summer of 1966, Derek switched to another club, Leicester City, before
securing his place with the Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1967. In just over eight
seasons at the Molinuex, Derek made 320 first team appearances for Wolves
netting over 120 goals. He helped the club regain it's First Division status in
1967 and collected a League Cup winners prize in 1974.
Whilst being a player with Wolves he was Chairman of the 'Professional
Footballer's Association'. In 1982 Derek returned to Molineux as Chief
Executive, a position he held briefly before circumstances made him quit the
club.
